alma de alfama

“Soul of Alfama” 2017. Alfama Lisbon. Permanent street exhibit spread along the streets and alleys of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood.

Alma de Alfama or “The Soul of Alfama” is an outdoor permanent exhibit in one of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods. The photographs are printed onto limestone – lisbon’s stone. The exhibit is a collaboration with the local borough and the community with the objective of preserving the neighbourhoods traditions and memories by photographing and talking to some of the most charismatic characters in the area, whose families have made Alfama their home for generations. Beside each image you will also find a  brief history of the person and their life in Alfama. The images are spread around the area. There are 40 portraits. The route begins in the Largo do Chafariz do dentro which is in front of the Museum of Fado.
